Fetal and Infant Mortality Review

Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) is a community-based, action-oriented process aimed at improving services, systems and resources for birthing individuals, infants and families.

 

Fetal and Infant Mortality Review teams are diverse, multidisciplinary groups of professionals who routinely come together to examine individual cases of fetal and infant deaths. South Jersey Fetal and Infant Mortality Review is supported by two Case Review Teams (CRTs) that are facilitated by The Cooperative. Case Review Teams examine fetal and infant losses to residents in the Southern New Jersey region, with intentional emphasis on Atlantic and Camden Counties due to the historical high rates of Black infant mortality.

 

The South Jersey Fetal and Infant Mortality Review also collaborates with Community Action Teams (CAT) comprised of community stakeholders, including residents, who periodically review recommendations to prevent fetal and infant loss. These Community Action Teams provide valuable feedback and insight to inform changes at the system level.  This process holds South Jersey Fetal and Infant Mortality Review accountable to the communities they serve and supports community-centered interventions to prevent future loss.
