TANF Initiative for Parents (TIP):

About the Program

TIP is a wonderful opportunity for all Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) parents with a new baby from birth to age one. TIP is more than a program, it's a network that offers real-life parenting support with a hands-on approach to help good parents become great parents.

What does TIP teach?

  • Healthy child development
  • Good nutrition
  • Available medical and child care services
  • Employment services such as resume writings and interviewing assistance
  • How to balance work and raise a family

There are two different TIP programs (combining elements of both is ok):

  • In-home services, where a TIP representative will come directly to homes and work one-on-one with clients
  • In-community sessions, offered at local One Stop Career Center.

Program Benefits

TIP can count towards TANF work activity

For parents with a child under 3 months old, the TIP program is voluntary.  For parents with a child between 3-12 months old, the program can count against required work activity.
