Infant & Family Development Program

About the program

The Infant and Family Development Program (IAFD) is a free service for new parents who may need help in caring for their baby.

IAFD offers help for new parents in three ways: parenting education, developmental testing and medical follow-up.

  • Follow-up, in your home, to see if your baby is growing and learning at the normal pace.
  • Activities to help a baby or child catch up with other children his or her age.
  • Answers to your questions about feeding, health care and discipline.
  • Information on how to tell when your baby needs a doctor.
  • Help in making sure your baby is properly immunized.
  • Support in obtaining other services such as WIC, Medicaid or SSI.
  •

    Program Benefits

You do not have to travel for this free program. The IAFD staff comes right to your home. In most cases, the staff visits a family every other week. If needed, the staff can come more often.

The staff of the IAFD program are nurses and social workers who want the best for you, your new baby and your family. They are skilled and experienced professionals who care.

    How to participate

Any family who lives in Atlantic City or Atlantic County and meets eligibility criteria can participate.

The hospital where you deliver decides if your family might benefit from this program. The hospital calls IAFD, which then contacts the family. IAFD is voluntary. If you are interested, just tell the person who calls that you want IAFD services.

The Infant and Family Development Program is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families.
