World Breastfeeding Month spotlights the importance of breastfeeding. Research shows that breastfed babies have a lower risk of diabetes and obesity and mothers who breastfeed have lower risks of breast and ovarian cancer.
This year’s theme, ‘Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers,’ touches on the power of peer support in breastfeeding success and the need to make assistance available to all mothers.
South Jersey moms can turn to Cooperative programs for support. The Cooperative connects moms with lactation consultants or peer counselors and provides breastfeeding equipment to those in need.
